Very exciting News! Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park is thrilled to announce that we will be receiving the 11,000-year-old Bison antiquus occidentalis specimen on November 30th. Discovered near Taber, Alberta, in 1957, this mature male skeleton tells a unique tale of early human interaction with the extinct giant bison in North America. With the potential for a world-class exhibit at the Badlands Historical Centre, this ancestor to Plains Buffalo evolved during a changing climate and eventually became extinct 6,000 years ago. The discovery also includes a stone artifact embedded in the specimen’s brain case, marking the earliest known evidence of human presence in Alberta and dating the end of glaciation. Join us for a special welcoming ceremony as we celebrate this remarkable piece of history. Everyone is invited to be part of this momentous occasion. Let’s come together to honor the past and embrace the significance of this unique discovery!
